Citizen Action:

If you wish to participate in a letter writing campaign, please follow the instructions below.    Our aim is to promote citizen actions and advocacy and to discuss how CMH-CEI effects the entire tri-county community.

You can either:

A.         Choose one of the sample letters as the basis for your letter.  Please add to or personalize the letter -add details about your specific concerns, issues, and circumstances.  Make sure your insert the name of your state representative.  Add your name, address and e-mail address at the closing of your letter.  Print the letter, sign the letter, and mail it.

B.         Create your own letter, using some of the key ideas discussed in the sample letters.  Make sure to add your state representative’s name.  Print the letter, sign the letter, and mail it.

We are currently directing our advocacy efforts toward the Appropriations Committee.  The minority Vice Chair of the Appropriations Committee is our local representative, Representative Gretchen Whitmer.

Tips for Letter Writing:

State who you are, what your issue is, and what you want to accomplish.

Do not personally attack anyone in the letter.  Be clear on topic and your view and your recommendations.

Make sure you are speaking as a private citizen. 

If referring to specific piece of legislation, refer to it by name or bill number.

Limit to two pages.

Personalize issue.  Give impact, region you live, etc.
